party time
This thread will walk you through creating a festival, story event, or some other special occurrence on the site. This is the same way staff create these, though we do have a bunch of hidden stuff to work with!
Check the FESTIVAL CALENDER to see what days are already taken.
introduction
Both festivals and events must have a few mandatory pieces of information to help fit it into Reset and the other already established parts of the site.
Festivals are a special day or days celebrating something. ICly they may last one afternoon, but OOCly you may have up to a week to post and participate in it. Festivals may be reoccurring yearly events.
Events are one off... well, events. This could be something such as a typhoon week, having a dragon rampage through the town, or maybe your character gets lost in a dungeon and a major rescue has to be mounted.
what you can make
New Festivals: these may be bringing over previous Harvest Moon or Rune Factory, or making completely new ones.
Site Events: these events are site wide and can have a lasting impact on the world at large
Town Events: these are events that may involve the whole of Selphia. It may be something as benign as a traveling performance troupe stopping by, or something large like a sudden monster gate and demons spawning.
Environment Events: this is the typhoon type of event! Usually linked to a boss type monster appearing.
Personal Story Event: this is the one for having a character killed, being turned into a half-monster, or something else you think would need staff involvement or help.

festivals Be sure to check the FESTIVAL CALENDER to see what has already been established.
The default area festivals are held in is the Town Plaza, the largest clear area in the center of Selphia. Festivals may have parts of it, or the entire thing take place inside a building!
The staff have the final decision on festivals, including when they run, and what OOC item prizes may be given out and how.
basic information
All festivals need the following information: - name
- date
- is it reoccurring?
- shops involved
- purpose
- brief description of what happens during the festivities
getting started
Festivals have a purpose, theme, focus that decides the events and games that may be involved. Every festival needs something that is being celebrated or shown off, such as seasonal crops, racing on monsters, or having a cook off.
This ties into when the festival happens - a festival focused on cooking hot food may be better off in Winter, a wooly shearing contest would make sense in Summer to help the monsters cool down!
what happens during the festival?
This could be things like: - a single contest that is the festival
- a show/carnival styled day or days with multiple themed shops, games, and/or contests
- a tournament
- a personal/rest day with no major events
GAMES
Games could be purely IC, or OOC. They can also give only IC or OOC items, or a mixture of both! Be sure you are clear about how the game is set up and what it gives out. This could be things like: - raffles
- mystery boxes
- mazes
- guessing games
- sports
- races
- trivia
- dance offs
- rap battles
- beer pong
shops involved
This is which characters are most likely to be helping set things up, provide the resources for, and running parts of the festival. Someone has to run the games, the judging a competition, to get all the food ready!
This may also be the building that the festival, or major parts of the festival, is hosted in.
A cooking competition would involve the restaurant, the general store, or maybe the tavern!
Be sure that the shop you plan to have run the event is ok with it.
rest days and holidays
These are special days that do not take up the entire day. Things like Flower Viewing Festival, Fireworks Festival, or White Day take place over the entire day, but do not have shops close up the entire time and give everyone a mostly free day off.
They may only have a single announcement to say the festival is on, and a single thread pinned in a board for where it takes place.
judging
Any competition or contest needs clear guidelines on how the winner is decided.
Competitions and contests involving OOC items need to involve using the skill levels and other OOC aspects involved with the item when choosing the winner.
Competitions and contests that are IC only may use OOC aspects for deciding winners, but are not required.
prizes
Prizes are based on what kind of festival it is - you're more likely to get something food related at a cook off, or something made of yarn at a wooly show!
OOC prizes may be rewarded for either IC or OOC only events. Feel free to give suggestions on what you think should be given out when creating games and contests for a festival.

other events
For thing that aren't festivals! These events can be only for two people, open to the entire site. Maybe it's just a boss controlled by a staff member for your thread, or it could be something like a meteor hitting a building!
Staff have the final decision when it comes to running these events. We have behind the scenes thing to consider when it comes to site events that you may never be made aware of!
Only events that are open to the majority of characters will have OOC items found or otherwise rewarded.
basic information
All events need the following information: - character(s) involved
- area(s) it takes place in
- planned impact of event
- description of event
involvement This is who is participating in the event - a singe character with staff controlled NPCs or monsters
- a preset group of characters
- a certain group of characers eg. merfolk only, airship crew only
- open to anyone to jump in at any point
The participation in an event dictates what rewards may be given in it. As a quick point of reference, generally solo events will not give OOC items, whereas major site events will always give some extra OOC reward for participating. rewards and ooc goodies
Based off the event and how things end up, the participants may be rewarded with extra items or money at the end. This is dependent on who the event is open to, the focus of the event, if any bosses were involved, and other factors.
You may wish to suggest some items that may be rewarded. It is still up to the staff to decide the final prizes and give them out.
