shiny and new
While we are based off the Harvest Moon and Rune Factory series, there are a lot of things that can be built on or introduced! To help make your mark on the OOC and IC world of Reset, we are open to members suggesting and creating new items with OOC benefits to add to the site!
This thread is a guide to how the staff create new things, so that you too can create them.
If you have something you want the staff to look and consider adding to the site, or want to brainstorm new thing, make a thread on this board!
introduction Each kind of new thing you want to create have their own set of mandatory information that is used to help place them on other parts of the site, and their actual use.
IC items are anything that isn’t part of any of the systems on the site - things like bananas, keeping a normal cat as a pet, making a brooch that isn’t on the item list. This includes money that is not used to buy OOC items.
OOC items are things that are in the systems, and can be used in the crafting systems to make items. They have assigned values/stats, recipes, buy/sell price. This includes money that is gained through posting, selling items, completed quests, or won through events.
what can you make?
New items: new items should not just be a palette swap, or an attempt to make higher level items easier to obtain.
New recipes: tie into the new item, but may be new combinations of existing items too.
New magic: this is not introducing new elements. This is creating new forms and uses of magic that may different enough IC to warrant being listed OOCly, new magic that uses a new form of casting, or new magic with an effect not currently available.
New monsters: these may be common monsters you find in the wild, bosses they only show up under certain circumstances, or new types of farm animal monstified!
You may not create a new monster for the sole purpose of creating a Half-monster.

creating items
Whether it's a new fruit to grow, a new sword to forge, or a new resource that drops from a monster
basic information
All items must have the following: - name
- buy and sell price
- method of obtaining
- shop(s) that may sell it
- category
- what it gives when added to recipes
All recipes must have the following: - name
- level
- skill used
- basic ingredients and their category
deciding ooc use
The point of making a new OOC item is in how it is used! There are a few main ways an OOC item can affect character: - give a level bonus or penalty to a single skill while equipped
- give or remove a level when consumed
- reduce one of an opponent's level
- reduce/increase or nullify the chance of an ailment
- cause an ailment while equipped
Some may have what seem to be purely IC effects - maybe you'll make a knit scarf that is enchanted to make a person smell like strawberries... which then attracts certain monsters! where to find
How does a character get a hold of the item? There are a few ways you could find it, such as: - buy from a shop only
- recipe/craft only
- mining only
- dredge it up while fishing
- drop from a certain monster
- grow it
- win it in a game or festival
recipes
Depending on the item you are introducing, you will also be creating the recipe that makes the item. - Food recipes should specify which appliance is used to create it.
- Clothes and accessories using cloth, wool, and yarn come under Tailoring
- Armor, weapons, tools, accessories and jewellery using metal, ores, and monster parts come under the Forging skill

magic This is not introducing new elements. This is creating new forms and uses of magic that may different enough IC to warrant being listed OOCly, new magic that uses a new form of casting, or new magic with an effect not currently available.
An example of new magic would be the magical musical instruments and music based spells that were created for Reset. These were not in the original game, and were introduced to expand the options and world of the site!
basic information All magic must have the following: - name
- element
- skill level
- how to learn
- basic description of what it does
- any ailments it may cause
- any ailment it may cure
element The element of the spell is a good indication of what the spell does. Keep in mind the way the different elements act when picking it. Looking at what element is common among the different races, or what monsters have which element can also serve as inspiration when creating a new spell.
extra effects
This may be something like a chance to poison the target, or healing Dizzy. Again, keep in mind the element of the spell when choosing to add an extra effect - it's not likely for a water spell to cause burn, unless it was specifically a spell involving super heated water. A new spell may have one extra effect without much trouble. A second effect may be linked with the first as a tradeoff eg. the spell grants +10 fire levels, but Seals the target as well. Extra effects may be things such as: - healing an ailment
- inflicting an ailment
- giving a skill level buff
- temporarily change the alignment of someone
learning
- can you buy this spell?
- is it only tutorable by a specific store?
- can it automatically be learned at a certain element skill level?
- is it linked to an event?
- are there any special requirements to learn it?

monsters Feeling lost without a giant rat to beat up? Got an idea for a cool roaming boss? Want to make a certain monster up to tie into a storyline for your character? Let's have a look at creating new monsters!
basic information
All monsters must have the following: - name
- element
- category
- spawn area
- drops
- is it tameable? Does it produce an item? What is the best item to give to tame? Is it rideable?
species The species, or category of monster you create will influence when and where it will appear. It also helps organise the bestiary!
Be sure to look at the current monsters to get an idea of what category the one you want to create may fit into. It can also serve a inspiration on how to fill out the details of your monster.
elements The element of a monster changes where they would be found, and some of the items they may drop. Have a look at the other monsters of the same element for an idea of what to do with your monsters.
The element also helps decide what ailments a monster may inflict, and their attack style in general.
spawning When does your monster spawn? There are a few things to consider when deciding: - how rare is it?
- where is it spawning?
- what are the other monsters in the same category like?
- is it tied to an event?
- is it a boss?
drops - what items does your monster drop?
- how rare is each one?
- do they give an item for doing something specific or special?
- if tameable, does it produce any items for their owner?
