The advance search on Anime Characters Database is an excellent starting point if you don't have a name of a potential FC, or are looking for a particular combination of features.
Tumblr is a great source of images, as well as writing help. Check the sources of the posts too! Here are a few places to look through, who may also have their own recommended blogs and sites.
